Description of Project:

Dushanbe City of the Republic of Tajikistan received a grant for $41.18 million from Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the Dushanbe Water Supply and Sanitation Project (DWSSP) to fund the rehabilitation of water supply and sewerage facilities with increased resilience to climate change impact and strengthening of the institutional capacity of State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Dushanbevodokanal (DVK) for improving its services in Shomansur district and the surrounding areas. The executing agency is the Executive Body of State Power of Dushanbe City, the implementing agency is the State Unitary Enterprise Dushanbevodokanal (DVK), and the client’s representative is the Project Implementation Group (PIG) within the DVK.

 

Scope of the services:

(i) Identifying the most appropriate sanitation options in the pockets of the Karotegin and Zebuniso areas of Shomansur District of Dushanbe that cannot be connected to the gravity sewers.

(ii) Reviewing, documenting, and optimizing the processes necessary to improve the treatment efficiency of the ailing Dushanbe WWTP. This includes multi-disciplinary training on the optimization of the operational performance of the processes of the existing WWTP.

(iii) Enhancing the capacity of the laboratory in wastewater quality testing of the influent and the effluent at the WWTP. This will seek to enable the WWTP operators to assess the improvements in the performance of the WWTP associated with the changes in the operational procedures proposed above.

(iv) Assessing the existing capacity of the utility and/or city administration in implementing a wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) monitoring system and identifying the needs, the equipment and capacity requirements necessary to undertake screening of wastewater for respiratory, enteric & systemic pathogens including SARS-CoV-2.
